Wayne E. Kennedy, 87, of Moravia Road, New Galilee, passed away at his residence July 24, 2010, following an extended illness.
Born Aug. 16, 1922, in Darlington, he was a son of the late Edwin and Helen Sheerer Kennedy.
He was married for 59 years to Edna Innes Kennedy, who passed away May 30, 2006.
Wayne retired from Babcock & Wilcox, where he was a pipe fitter in the welding fitting department in Koppel. He also was a lifelong farmer.
Mr. Kennedy was an active member of Moravia Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, former deacon, trustee, clerk of session and a Sunday school teacher.
He was a decorated veteran of the Army, serving in World War II.
Wayne was a member of the American Legion Post 749 in Wampum, the Meridian Lodge F&AM 411 in Enon Valley, New Castle Consistory and the Mohawk Area Church Association.
He was active with Project Hope and the Heifer Project.
He particularly enjoyed time spent with his church family.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jeff Luce of Hermitage, Beth and Bob Basile of Duncannon, Pa., and Connie and David Anderson of North Beaver Township; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ed and Diana Kennedy of North Beaver Township and John and Connie Kennedy of North Beaver Township; a sister and brother-in-law, Lucy and Bob McKinley of North Beaver Township; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at Moravia Presbyterian Church with his current pastor, the Rev. Teresa Kendall, and his former pastor, the Rev. Jason Hickman, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jameson Hospice or the Meridian Lodge F&AM.
