Mary Nagy, 96, of 2115 Moravia St. Ext., New Castle, died the afternoon of July 28, 2010, in Avalon Nursing Center.
Born June 9, 1914, in Murrysville, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Savko Vargesko. She was married to Daniel Nagy Sr. for 39 years. He preceded her in death on May 1, 1973.
Mary was completely devoted to her family. In addition to raising her children, she cared for many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and baker and she inspired the family to carry on her ethnic traditions.
Mary was still baking her special oatmeal cookies for the children’s birthdays until a few months ago. She loved flowers, gardening, canning and taught her skills to many.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur F. Nagy and his wife, Joan, of North Versailles, Pa., Daniel Nagy III and his wife, Marcia, of
New Castle and William E. Nagy and his wife, Karen, of New Castle; three daughters and sons-in-law, Alice Dudash and her husband, Elmer, of New Castle, Mary Jane Kulnis and her husband, William, of Poland, and Linda L. Harvey and her husband, Gary, of New Castle; a brother, Albert Vargesko of Florida; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Larry Dudash; six brothers and a sister.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Noga Funeral Home Inc., 1142 S. Mill St.
A Blessing service will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. tomorrow. The Rev. Steven M. Palsa, of St. Vincent DePaul Parish will officiate. Burial will be in S.S. Phillip & James Cemetery.
