Lillian E. Surrena, 84

Lillian E. Surrena 84, of 713 Braddock Court, Mars, Pa. and former Oil City resident, died at 1 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Sunrise of Cranberry after an extended illness.
Born Jan. 23, 1926, at home in Fryburg, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Robert and Kathryn Beichner Elder.
Mrs. Surrena was a 1943 graduate of Oil City High School.
She worked as a receptionist for Dr. William McAndrews and later as a keypunch operator at Oilwell supply before her marriage.
She was married on Aug. 24, 1946, to James E. Surrena and he preceded her in death on Oct. 21, 1982.
Lillian was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church in News Castle for the last 35 years. She made the best pies and home-made soups and was a skilled seamstress and dressmaker.
Survvivors include six children, Greg and Ellen Baier Surrena of Woodbridge, Va., Brady and Cindy Ventura Surrena of Cleveland , Tenn., Jane Surrena of Mars, Pa., Dave and Janet Rose Surrena of Fombell, Molly ‘Mary’ and Gerald Lyshcov of Culebra, Puerto Rico and Rob and Lisa Samek Surrena of New Castle; 10 grandchildren, Jim and Bobbi Jo Surrena, Mike and Dee Surrena,
Ando and Michelle Surrena, Emily and Mike Pincek, Susan Jackson, Katie Surrena and Alicia Surrena, Monica Surrena, Rob Surrena and Angie Surrena; four great grandchildren, Emily, Nathaniel, Cora and Antonio; four sisters, Mary Smith of Oil City, Clara Stellman of Baton Rouge, La., Ila English and her husband, Charles, of Butler, Leona Goodwill and her husband, Sheridan, of Boothwyn, Pa.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and their husbands Twila Elder, Isabelle and Wayne Schreffler and Josephine and Woodrow Smith and brothers-in-law Edward Smith and Felix Stellman
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. tomorrow in St. Joseph’s Church, 35 Pearl Ave., Oil City, with the Rev. Justin P. Pino, pastor, presiding. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials in Lillian’s name can be made to the American Heart/American Stroke Association.
