Dennis “Denny” Staples, 64, of Friday’s Hill Road, Wayne Township, died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 29, 2010, in the emergency room of Ellwood City Hospital.
Born Dec. 1, 1945, in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Carl and Margaret Jordan Staples.
He was married for 44 years to Gayle Hogue Staples, who survives.
Denny retired in 2009 from PennDOT after 17 years of service. He also worked at Russell Trucking and was a self-employed owner of Timber Tree Service.
A 1964 graduate of Lincoln High School, he was a member and trustee of the Harmony Baptist Church. Denny was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and walking his dogs. He loved to tell stories and loved being around his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Gayle, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Bob Jones of New Castle; a son, Lenny Staples of New Castle; and six grandchildren, Cassie, Erica, Jenna and Cameron Staples and Bobby and Dylan Jones.
He was preceded in death by a brother in infancy.
Visiting hours will be held from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010, at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave., Ellwood City. Friends will also be received at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 2010. The Rev. James Hockenberry will officiate.
Interment will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Princeton.
